Four generations of history
Rookery Manor has been in the Clapp family for over four generations. Ian Clapp, the owner, was born in the 16th Century Manor House, where he grew up and went on to raise his own family.
Ian is well known and respected for his entrepreneurial spirit. He originally put this into practice in the farming industry, which are the grassroots of his family background. Ian was one of the largest pig farmers in the UK and an expert in his field, particularly in Pig Husbandry.
Weddings at Rookery Manor
With a passion for classic cars, he entered the world of weddings in 1988 with a chauffeur business. Ian began to diversify from farming in 1995. When the Civil Ceremony licenses for properties came into effect, the business quickly expanded. Ian developed the Rookery Manor grounds into the award-winning gardens that still exist today. The first Civil Ceremony marriage at Rookery Manor was held in 2000. We are proud to say today that the grounds have been enjoyed by over one million guests.
Such was the success of the weddings, that the word quickly spread. This led Ian to start work on purpose-built function sites. Ian and his family lovingly designed and built new buildings with the Desborough Suite having an indoor marquee theme. The Desborough and Iris Suites where originally the site of a historic barn.
The Manor House was converted from the family home to a hotel in 2003. The building works have continued to cater for the ongoing success of the business. A spa and additional bedrooms are the latest developments.
Ian has been recognised for farm diversification with many awards and is still called upon today to speak on this subject. Ian remains hands-on and involved in the business. With a genuine enthusiasm for ensuring every attention to detail is catered for, Ian is an inspiration to the team. He has many wonderful stories to tell and will be happy to share them with you if you happen to see him around the site during your stay.
